     Fluent reading is an important part of reading well. Fluent reading is made up of three main parts: accurate word reading, the speed at which words are read accurately, and expression, also known as prosody. With Oral Reading Fluency: Practice and Progress Monitoring – Texas students will practice oral reading of texts and be monitored for progress on a weekly basis.

     Oral Reading Fluency: Practice and Progress Monitoring – Texas has thirty passages each at three grade levels. (Grade 2 has passages at grade 1, 2, and 3. Grade 3 has passages for grade 2, 3, and 4. Grade 4 has passages for grade 3, 4, and 5. Grade 5 has passages for grade 4, 5, and 6.) The passages are at or near the middle of each grade in reading difficulty.

     Instructions for using the selections as guided reading practice are included with each set of passages. They are designed to provide teachers with before, during, and after reading lesson plans to help guide students through the selections.

   Mini Lessons – Reading – TEKS is a series of mini lessons introducing each of the reading Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards adopted by the state of Texas.

      Each mini lesson is designed to introduce a specific TEKS standard. Some of the standards have been broken down into several mini lessons due to the content of the standard.

      English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) are included in each mini lesson, if applicable.

     I Know the Reading TEKS! – Board Games are designed to be used by the students to review and reinforce the reading Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) adopted by the state of Texas in 2008.

            The reading TEKS are divided into knowledge and skills sections. Each set of game cards presents material from one or several of these sections. Six single page and three two page game boards are available for use as games.

            Each game card includes the reading TEKS, the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), if applicable, the section from the reading TEKS that the question is taken from, and one question. Some cards have answer choices included while some answers must be provided by the student players. There are answer cards included for each set of game cards. There are 16 questions per each TEKS.

   Sentences – Writing / Revising / Editing – TEKS is a series of sentence writing lessons. There are 9 sets of 20 sentence revising and editing pages for students to read, revise, and edit. Students will be correcting for capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling of sight words.
     The reading level of the sentences corresponds to Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading book levels.
     Each page consists of a set of directions, a picture, a sentence with two errors, handwriting lines for the students to write the sentence correctly, and boxes for the student to rewrite each word from their correctly written sentence.
